Finnamyl, a part of Chemigate group, will invest in Designed Enzymatic Biomaterial bioproduction at the site in Kokemäki in Satakunta. The investment is a part of the on-going production and process development co-operation with International Flavors and Fragrancies (IFF) and a clear continuation of the completed production investment in Lapua during 2022.
The new investment will use existing infrastructure at the Kokemäki site to allow record setting completion time to first production as well as a biomanufacturing facility with overall minimized carbon footprint. The start-up of the production will take place during the second half of 2024. As in the past project with IFF, the products out of Kokemäki will replace fossil-based ingredients in several markets and applications such as IFFs home and personal care markets. In addition, the new capacity will enable the applications in the paper and board industry where IFF works together with Kemira.
“We are proud to further strengthen our co-operation with IFF. To promote alternatives to fossil-based ingredients is fully aligned with our strategy. Through the investment and together with the ramp-up of the existing potato protein line, Finnamyl becomes a full-fledged biorefinery” says Kalle Kainu, Finnamyl CEO.
Finnamyl Oy produces potato starch and potato-based protein. Finnamyl Oy is a part of Chemigate, a company producing more than 100 000T of modified starches for the paper and board industries as well as cationic reagents and bio-based polymers.
