EcoVadis Platinum for Chemigate – Responsibility Achieved Through Collaboration

Chemigate has been awarded the highest possible recognition in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment: the Platinum Medal. This result places us among the top-performing companies worldwide in terms of corporate responsibility – only about one percent of assessed companies reach this level.

Scores Improved Across All Areas

In this year’s assessment, Chemigate’s scores improved across all four evaluation areas. This reflects our comprehensive and continuously evolving approach to sustainability, encompassing environmental responsibility, social impact, ethical business practices, and responsible supply chains.

Our climate work is now guided by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), through the emission reduction targets of our parent company, Berner. As a concrete step, a heat recovery system will be completed at our Lapua site by the end of the year, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 900 tonnes annually. In addition, we have strengthened supply chain sustainability: 80% of our raw materials are sourced from suppliers who participate in EcoVadis assessments themselves.

“The Platinum Medal is an outstanding achievement – and above all, it’s a shared success,” says QEHS Manager Terhi Kiviranta. “Colleagues from many units and roles contributed to the process, and the power of collaboration is clearly visible in the outcome.”

Finnamyl Fully Included for the First Time

This year’s evaluation was also special in that Finnamyl Group was fully included in the assessment for the first time – covering all categories and metrics. This expanded scope highlighted Finnamyl’s strengths, particularly in circular economy practices and the utilisation of side streams in production.

Niina Aarnisalo, Quality Manager at Finnamyl, summarises the value of the process:

“The EcoVadis assessment gives us a concrete framework to refer to when customers inquire about our sustainability practices. We also participated in Satafood’s circular economy project, and the material from that initiative proved useful for the assessment. Circular economy is a reality at Finnamyl – every part of the potato is used efficiently in our production.”

What Is EcoVadis?

EcoVadis is the world’s leading provider of business sustainability ratings, covering over 130,000 companies globally. The evaluation is based on internationally recognised standards, such as GRI, ISO 26000, and the UN Global Compact. The assessment covers four key areas: environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

The results provide customers, partners, and other stakeholders with a transparent and comparable view of a company’s sustainability performance.
