The 2025 Fitness Campaign – Thoughts and Reflections

Chemigate’s Fitness Campaign 2025 kicks off once again on January 20, 2025. I picked up a pen and jotted down an opening speech, just like a mayor would.

The year has changed, and it’s time to fulfill new promises. Once again, I made a promise (thankfully only in my head): “In 2025, I won’t eat chocolate or sweets anymore.” To be honest, I can already say that this promise won’t hold.

Instead, I promise to continue my new hobby, which I truly enjoy!

Last autumn, I attended a swimming technique course, and I’ve continued swimming since then. My swimming skills have always been unfortunately poor, but now that I’ve reached a “slightly more mature age,” I decided it was time for a change. I also want to remind everyone that swimming is an essential life skill and should be part of everyone’s basic abilities.

The Nordic definition of swimming proficiency:
“A person is considered proficient in swimming if, after falling into deep water such that their head goes underwater, they are able to resurface and swim continuously for 200 meters, including 50 meters on their back.”

I challenge you to reflect on your own swimming skills – do you meet these criteria? The definition may sound simple, but in reality, the distance is surprisingly long. We never know what situations life might throw at us. Being able to swim could be crucial if you ever find yourself in the water.

As the Fitness Campaign begins, I challenge you to give swimming a try!

I highly recommend taking part in a swimming course – it’s an excellent way to learn proper techniques and gain confidence in the water. If swimming isn’t yet one of your strengths, now is the perfect time to start learning under the guidance of a professional.

Remember: it’s never too late to start – even at a more mature age. 😉
